Explore the incredible legacy of Dr. Lucy M. Freibert at Archives & Special Collections current exhibit on the first floor of Ekstrom Library, University of Louisville, curated by summer intern Aly Collins! The exhibit features rare books from the Archives and Special Collections Freibert Collection, along with personal letters to Lucy M. Freibert from women, poets, and authors.During a nearly 30-year career at UofL, Lucy M. Freibert served as a scholar, religious sister, activist, and collector of hundreds of literature and theory works. During her employment, Lucy highlighted these characteristics through her achievements which included: teaching the first women’s studies course at UofL in 1973, advocating for a university-wide sexual harassment policy, establishing the UofL Women’s Center and the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies, and teaching one of the first African-American literature courses. UofL is proud to have benefited from her advocacy and grateful to still learn from what she left in her collection. Check out the exhibit to learn more about Lucy and her collection. It's located in the display cases by the west entrance and will be available until October 31!
