Betty was born on July 9, 1907 in Croydon, England under the reign of King Edward VII. Presidents. She moved to the United States in 1957 and spent time living in New York, New Jersey, Florida and eventually Georgia. Over the past ten years Betty has lived in Grayson, GA and has been a beloved member of the British Born Chatterers (BBC) Club. She watched the Braves religiously during baseball season and never passed the opportunity for a family get-together. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jean Cecil.

She is survived by her two children Doreen McConaghy and Reggie Searle. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren Brian Searle, Kenny Searle, Danny Searle, Paul McConaghy, Doreen McConaghy, Dianne McConaghy, and Pam Wood. Betty was also a loving great-grandmother to eight and great-great-grandmother to three. Even at 103 years of age, Betty was full of vigor and life. MILDRED GARRETT LIPHAM Evans, GA- Mrs. Mildred Garrett Lipham, 93, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Kent-wood Nursing Facility, Augusta, Georgia. Following her graduation from Tift in 1937 she was a high school language teacher Bowdon, Georgia until 1964 when she began teaching at West Georgia College. She was a lifelong member of the Bowdon Baptist Church. She was a member of the Blue Stocking Club, the Tift Alumnae Association, Kappa Delta Pi, and Alpha Delta Kappa. She enjoyed art and made a number of drawings and paintings of buildings and landmarks in and around Bowdon, Georgia. She enjoyed sports and was particularly fond of tennis, gold, and swimming.

Survivors include her two children, James Cliff Lipham, of Lake Toxaway, NC and Mary Catherine Lipham Handy of Evans, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. He and Mona enjoyed many years of touring in their antique cars.

He attended Snellville United Methodist Church and was a member of the Fellowship Class there. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lucius M. Cline of Greenville, SC and was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Charles G. Devon.

Mrs. Devon graduated from Furman University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1943, and went on to study laboratory technology at the Medical College of Charleston. For 18 years she worked as a laboratory technologist or supervisor for the Hood-Lawson VA Hospital in Chamblee, GA, St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, IN, Grady Memorial Hospital and Georgia Baptist Hospital. In the early 1950's she traveled the state of Georgia setting up laboratories in smaller hospitals under the auspices of the Hill-Burton Act.

Part of her lab training was under the teaching of Dr. George Papanicolaou, making her one of the first lab technicians in Georgia to run the Pap test to detect uterine cancer. In 1962, the Georgia Society of Medical Technologists named Mrs. Devon Medical Technologist of Year. She served as an educational coordinator for Scientific Products, Inc.

for 7 years. In 1978 she started NOVED, Inc. offering medical technology seminars and conferences in the Atlanta area. Needlework and gardening were her favorite past-times. She and Mr.

Devon were active in the Georgia Botanical Society and Mrs. Devon also made many t-shirt quilts for people after she retired.
