Deaconess Clinic/Heart Group offices open on Methodist campus; hospital tweaks name (2024)

HENDERSON, Ky. - Henderson's hospital announced a name changeTuesday and officials there also cut the ribbon on a brand-new, 30,000-square-foot facility that will serve Deaconess Clinic and Deaconess Heart Grouppatients.

Both changes are part of the continued evolution stemming from a formal affiliation with Deaconess Health that was finalized one year ago.

New Deaconess Clinic

Physicians, providers and staff from four Deaconess locations in Henderson have combined into a newly remodeled, formerly unused space in the South Tower of the Henderson hospital.

The entrance to the new Deaconess Clinic/Heart Group facility is on the back side of the hospital, facing the Ohio River, and there is also adjacent parking available behind the hospital.

Shawn McCoy, CEO of Deaconess Health System, said many of the changes that have taken place from the year-old Methodist/Deaconess affiliation have been somewhat behind the scenes.

"But this is very tangible. This, in my opinion, really helps the patients at the end of the day. It consolidatesthe Deaconess Clinicand Deaconess Heart Groupinto one location, and if patientsneed ancillary testing like radiology or lab, it's right here. They don't have to get in theircar and drive over here, so that's a big advantage in my opinion."

He said other patient-focused changes have included the implementation of industry-standard Epic medical records software at Methodist and the expansion and relocation of Union County Methodist's Emergency Medicine unit.

McCoy said to expect more patient-orientedcollaborations.

"We're working on a number of different things in the future, in terms of the affiliation, more aroundservice lines," McCoy said. "What service lines can we bring to Methodist that mirror the quality and capability that we have at Deaconess that we can bring here and duplicate."

He said for Henderson and area residents, that will equal "more access, more convenience andhigher quality."

According to a press release sent out Tuesday morning, "Effective Sunday, Sept. 1, Methodist Hospital’s main campus in Henderson, as well as Methodist Hospital in Morganfield, will begin operating as Methodist Health.

"When Methodist Hospital completed its affiliation with Deaconess in September 2018, the legal entity name was changed to Methodist Health, Inc. Following a one-year period of transition, the name change becomes effective system-wide.

"Methodist Hospital, founded in 1946 as an 80-bed, one-story hospital, has grown to consist of a 192-bed, multi-story hospital in Henderson, a 25-bed critical access hospital and Level IV trauma center in Morganfield, and the Methodist Physician Group, including more than 40 medical professionals working in 14 clinics throughout three counties in western Kentucky."

Methodist’s healthcare team of nearly 900 employees services Henderson, Union and Webster counties with a population of more than 75,000. The hospital also manages the city-county ambulance services.

Along with the name change to Methodist Health, a new mission statement has been developed:

Methodist Health is committed to providing exceptional quality care to promote the health of the people we serve.

Benny Nolen, president and CEO of Methodist Health, said, “In the 73 years since Methodist Hospital was founded, the scope and breadth of facilities and services offered has expanded exponentially. We are much more than a hospital. For that reason, transitioning to Methodist Health better defines our organization, our services and our commitment to health.”

“Since becoming a Deaconess Network Affiliate,” Nolen continued, “we have been able to build on a shared vision that is improving access to high quality services and enhancing efficiency for our patients while remaining independent and under local control.”
